Don't Stop At Good

When God is directing us to do something, and we start going through that thing, whatever it is, it can be easy to think about going back.

Especially when we are not on the other side of it yet.

It is easy to think in your flesh and want to go back to what is most comfortable. And not even just because it is comfortable. Sometimes it can seem like it is the better thing, because you have not reached the other side yet.

But if God is taking us to something different, and we know He orchestrated it, and we did not orchestrate it ourselves, then it has to be the best thing on the other side.

We may have left something that was good. But if God is moving us toward something else, then we are moving toward something better.

God is not going to take us from better to worse. He is not going to take us from better back to good.

He does not do that.

We do that.

The enemy can do that too, if we allow him to. We can even partner with the enemy when he tries to do it, because he never wants us to get to our best.

He always wants us to either stay in our worst, or maybe he will let us ride out to good. Because if we go from worse to good, that may not be a big deal to him.

We can be comfortable in good.

And the enemy can still work in that.

But when we get to better and best, we have seen something different. We do not give him that same play anymore.

It is like, “Wait. Who are you talking to? I do not know you.”

When you are going the route God is taking you, never stop at good.

At least get to better.

Because when you get to better, it is easier to get to best.

When you come from worse to good, it is easy to stop there because good feels comfortable. You may hope for better, but you are comfortable in good. And getting to better requires effort on your part.

I think it is easy for God to take us from worse to good because He does the work for us. He brings us out of things. He helps us get to good.

But sometimes when we get to good, we have to work to get to better.

Getting to better requires effort.

When we first get saved, God does things and it seems so easy. You can open the Bible and point to a scripture, and it relates to you. You go to church, and the message feels like it is just for you.

You have been starving, so everything feels good.

That is coming from worse to good.

But after a while, when you are comfortable in good, it can feel like a plateau. It does not seem as exciting anymore. It does not feel the same.

Because now you have to do the work.

God got you from worse to good. It was exciting. It was like a new relationship.

But now things have settled, and you have to work from good to get to better.

That is where you have to start digging in.

You have to learn some things. You have to put forth your effort. You have to really dig in to get to better.

And when you get to better, you still have to work. But at better, you know how to work. It is a little bit easier because you have already learned something.

Then you can say, “I have arrived at better. This feels much better than worse and good. Now I just need to get to best.”

And after best, I think there may be great. Excellence. Maybe even another level.

So when God is moving you, do not let comfort convince you to go back.

Do not stop at good.

Keep moving toward better.

Keep moving toward best.
